The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland and the Danish Gambling Authority signed a memorandum of understanding on July 8, 2026, to coordinate oversight of cross-border gambling markets. The agreement establishes a formal framework for sharing regulatory practices and addressing digital-era compliance challenges.
The partnership follows a recent executive meeting between GRAI chief executive Anne Marie Caulfield and Danish authority head Anders Dorph. Both officials reviewed current compliance obstacles and agreed to align regulatory procedures where feasible. The authorities noted that coordinated European action is necessary to manage risks associated with online gambling platforms.
Regulatory Alignment and European Cooperation
Caulfield stated that the memorandum marks a key step for regulators managing interconnected markets. She described the agreement as "another vital milestone in strengthening cooperation between regulators operating in closely connected markets." Ongoing dialogue between Ireland and Denmark will improve oversight efficiency and support broader efforts to build relationships with European regulatory bodies.
The MoU announcement coincides with the initial phase of the GRAI licensing program, which recently began distributing remote betting permits. In-person betting licenses are scheduled for release later this year. Applications for gaming, lottery, B2B, charitable, and philanthropic licenses will open in 2027 and 2028.
